The German Purity Law.
In 1516, Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria issued the so-called Purity Law. In the future, only malt, hops and water could be used to brew beer. Under careful hygienic conditions, first-class beers can be produced with these three raw materials alone and the yeast, which has always been involved in the brewing process, but was only discovered in the 19th century and anchored in food law.
